Value Based Payment (VBP) contracts are complex, risk-bearing agreements that must be negotiated carefully, especially when non-profit, community-based organizations are involved.
EngageWell is one of nineteen Behavioral Health Care Collaboratives (BHCCs) formed in 2018 with funding from New York State Offices of Mental Health (OMH) and Addiction Services and Supports (OASAS). For four years, BHCCs across the State have been negotiating Medicaid Managed Care Value Based Payment (VBP) contracts for community- based behavioral health providers.
In June 2022, EngageWell launched its first VBP contract in partnership with Amida Care, Special Needs Plan.
Focusing on a population of patients with or at risk for HIV, EngageWell aims to improve viral load suppression and total cost of care by leveraging its innovative, integrated care model – “Care Your Way” – that addresses primary care, behavioral health services, and social determinants of health.
